    Like Napa in the ‘70s...

Bruma Vinícola’s wines are darlings of the MICHELIN three-star set for their outstanding value and bold character. Led by a Grand-Cru-Classé-trained winemaker with a palate for innovative and captivating blends, the innovative 2019 Plan B is one of the most exciting reds we’ve tasted this year.

Bruma is one of the elite producers in Mexico’s Valle de Guadalupe, one of the most exciting, emerging wine regions in the world, and the dark-fruited Plan B is a one-bottle argument for its historic yet largely-untapped wine industry.

Plan B is a perfect example of why Bruma is one of the stars of the Valle de Guadalupe, a white-hot region that’s been capturing the hearts and palates of top sommeliers in the last few years.

Bruma is led by star winemaker Lulu Martinez Ojeda, who grew up in the area but made her name at Margaux icon Brane-Cantenac. At Bruma, she merges all of her classical training with the adventurous spirit of the region. That means blending Merlot and Malbec, Bordeaux varieties with dark fruit and rich textures, with Rhône varieties Mourvèdre and Grenache to create something unique and profound in its own right.

With a climate that reminds us of a slightly warmer cross between Southern Rhône Valley and Tuscany, balanced by temperate Pacific breezes, and rocky soils that force vines to struggle, Guadalupe has all the natural ingredients of a world-class winegrowing area.

Lulu picks early to balance the naturally concentrated fruit with freshness, and then aging the wine for ten months in barriques to smooth the tannins to perfection. The result is a bottling that’s immediately enjoyable and completely unique—a thrilling find.
