Meet the World’s Next Great Pinot Noir Stronghold

Pinot Noir may grow throughout the world, but not all examples of it are created equal. Thin-skinned and notoriously difficult to ripen, the grape only achieves true greatness in a handful of privileged places where all the right conditions align.

Casas del Bosque’s Pinot Noir Reserva, from one of Chile’s leading estates, proves that the Casablanca Valley belongs on that rarefied list.

When the visionary Cúneo family established Casas del Bosque in 1993, they initially experimented with Merlot, but it wasn’t long before they recognized the Casablanca Valley’s potential for world-class Pinot Noir. Nestled between the chilly Pacific and the snow-capped Andes, Casablanca’s foggy mornings and dramatic diurnal temperature shifts make it a perfect cool-climate incubator for the grape, delivering all the freshness, transparency, and coastal intensity that Pinot fanatics crave.

Crafted for maximum fruit-forwardness without sacrificing any of its mouthwatering acidity, Casa del Bosque’s vibrant, ruby-cored reserva always ranks among Chile’s best—and the stellar, low-yielding 2019 dials the elegance factor up to eleven.

Grown on ungrafted vines planted in Casas del Bosque’s family vineyard in the westernmost reaches of the Casablanca Valley, this wine boasts classic Pinot flavors of wild strawberry, ripe cherry, and Darjeeling spice, culminating in a complex finish layered with silky tannins. One of the most thrilling examples to cross our path in recent memory, this should be required drinking for Pinot-philes new and old.
