    Ce Verre Pour Moi!

Domaine Bertrand et Axelle Machard de Gramont is a name that few know. The Burgundy domaine is tiny, even by the standards of that micro-producing region.

Yet we’ve been fortunate enough to offer their wines for several years, and every bottling has earned at least a 4.33-star Wine Access member rating, making them some of the most beloved Burgundies we sell.

Today we introduce Les Terrasses des Vallerots, the most elegant, filigreed, and refined wine of their collection—and as usual, there isn’t much to go around. Grown on steep, rocky soils high on the hill overlooking two renowned sites in Nuits-Saint-Georges—Vaucrains and Les Saint-Georges—it’s a labor of love for the domaine.

The vineyard is so hard to work that it remained unplanted for generations, but domaine owner Bertrand Machard de Gramont saw the site’s potential, so he painstakingly cleared it, then replanted it in 2001.

Machard de Gramont, who trained at the legendary Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, carried that expertise into his Nuits-Saint-Georges venture, crafting Pinot Noirs full of character. His daughter Axelle joined in 2004 and led the drive to convert the estate to organic viticulture and to reduce yields.

Axelle knows her land is excellent, so she doesn’t do anything to distract from it. All of the grapes are hand-harvested and 100% destemmed. Aging takes place over 18 to 20 months in used oak barrels, giving ample time to draw out the grapes’ subtle complexity without overt oak influence.

Since major frosts early in the ‘19, ‘20, and ‘21 growing seasons decimated the output of producers across Burgundy, it’s going to get increasingly difficult to find your favorite bottles. We suggest you try one of ours.
