    "Desert Island" Wine

For years, Gérard Boulay’s Sancerres have been some of our go-to bottles—the ones we point to on a restaurant winelist and when at home relaxing. Based in the heart of Sancerre, these bottles are wonderfully complete wines, combining fruit, texture, and vibrancy in perfect measure.

Today we are excited to share not just a Boulay Sancerre, but one of the estate’s single-vineyard treasures with you. Gérard Boulay Monts Damnés combines site and know-how to produce one of the most compelling and complex expressions of Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The Boulay family has been growing grapes in the Sancerre village of Chavignol since 1309. The familial ties to the region and the quality of the site converge to create our go-to Sancerre. And we're not alone! The Wine Advocate declared Boulay’s Sancerres “desert island” wines.

This wine delivers everything a Sauvignon Blanc drinker craves- it has a blend of citrus and stone fruit with an unmistakable foundation of minerals and verve. The herbal tones are ripe and fresh, packed with lemongrass and chervil.

The site behind this release is one of the most regarded vineyards in Sancerre, attracting the likes of Cotat and Dagueneau. The “Damned Mountain” is essentially a limestone plateau made entirely of prized terres blanches chalk. Combined with its south-facing exposure and vines averaging 45 years, the grapes are here perfectly poised to deliver the best expression Sancerre.

As the weather warms and more seafood finds its way to our table, one thing is for sure—the fridge will be stocked with this wine. We could honestly drink this with most anything, but a top pairing is shellfish- a lobster roll or fried soft shell crab alongside this rounded Sancerre with its zippy finish is pure perfection. We hope your fridge will be stocked too, and please let us know what magic you find when adding this fantastic bottle to your table… or desert island beach blanket!
