Triumph in Chablis
This is the kind of Chardonnay that every wine-lover should experience at least once in their life.
Grown on a revered Grand Cru, the 2019 J. Moreau & Fils Blanchot is bold and expressive—a world-class white with an aromatic ensemble of lemon balm, acacia, hazelnut, and peach. With a palate of citrus, stone fruit, and spice, and a weighty mouthfeel balanced by a bright acidity that leads to a long finish, it shows the profound fullness of a warm vintage.
J. Moreau & Fils was founded in 1814 as a wine-merchant trading firm by cooper Jean-Joseph Moreau. The Moreau family’s success in Chablis is written in their longevity, in the proliferation of quality wines bearing their name, and in the dozens of top scores the domaine’s wines have received in the past decade.
The 2019 vintage in Chablis began with a cool spring, followed by a hot, dry summer that allowed the vines at Blanchots to develop grapes with perfect ripeness and concentration. When Moreau harvested their Chardonnay in September, they brought in flawless, juicy berries—and, like other top producers, they praised the vintage as one of the best they’d seen in decades.
The 2019 Blanchot Grand Cru is a triumph that shows why the domaine has been on a serious roll. After full malolactic fermentation and aging on the fine lees for 14 months, the wine deftly balances roundness and rich fruit with the vibrancy and crisp acidity for which Chablis is known. It’s a profound bottle, and if you stash it in a cool cellar it will continue to reward you for another six years or more.
