A Truly Special Bottle

It would be hard to find a bottle of Napa Valley Cabernet more special than Luc Morlet’s 2019 ‘Entente Cordiale” Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. Made in an extremely limited quantity—just 100 six-packs, totaling 50 cases—it’s never been offered to anyone outside Morlet’s inner circle of collectors. In fact, individual collectors have never had the opportunity to buy this wine.

To craft ‘Entente Cordiale,’ Luc Morlet hand-selected some of his finest Cabernet Sauvignon barrels of the 2019 vintage—one of the finest this century—then added a small amount of estate-grown Cabernet Franc to the blend. The name ‘Entente Cordiale’ reflects a cordial agreement between the two grape varieties, representing a remembrance of the past and the hope for a bright future.

Luc Morlet is simply one of the greatest craftsmen in Napa Valley. He was born into a winemaking family that goes back five generations in Champagne. His love for his American sweetheart brought him to California, where he quickly reached the top rung of the winemaking ladder. Then, almost two decades ago, he and his wife Jodie Morlet founded Morlet Family Vineyards. Since then Luc has racked up over thirty 100-point wines.

This wine was grown on the Morlets’ ‘Cœur de Vallée’ Vineyard, which sits in the prime portion of Oakville, across Highway 29 from To Kalon. After a nighttime manual harvest into small lugs and meticulous hand-sorting, the wine was fermented using native yeast, in extremely rare Darnajou French oak puncheons (Luc and Jodie are the exclusive importers of Darnajou barrels in the US). These puncheons, which are almost three times the size of a normal barrel, are referred to as demi-muids when they are closed and used for aging and gueule-bée when they are open-top and used for fermentation. This meticulous attention to detail has resulted in over 50 97–100-point reviews coming from this vineyard alone!

The 2019 ‘Entente Cordiale’ was bottled unfined and unfiltered, and it’s just hitting its prime drinking window right now, although it will age beautifully for decades. We’re thrilled to share this special bottle with you—this is the kind of wine this club is all about!
