    Make Any Meal an Event

Oddero has been a top-tier producer in Piedmont for a long time. A really long time. In fact, the family has been making wine for seven generations, and at this point their name is synonymous with sky-high quality—and Barolo prices that often reach into triple digits.

That’s why their Poderi Oddero Barbera d’Alba Superiore is one of Northern Italy’s great values. Grown on sites that could easily produce $75 Barolo—all in the communes of La Morra and Castiglione Falletto, including top crus like Villero and Rocche—it’s a humbly-priced bottle that comes from undeniably grand vineyards.

Oddero’s Barbera Superiore might not cost a mint, but that doesn’t mean it cuts corners on quality or complexity. Made from organic grapes, this bottle carries the prestigious “Superiore” designation, which signifies a Barbera made in a more serious style, and aged longer before release. This spends 16 months in large casks—four more than the designation requires—before bottling, an expensive step that hints at the power and intrigue waiting for you inside the bottle

The producers of great Barolos drink Barbera at the table just about every day, and we do our best to live like the Odderos of the world. We’ve been pairing this bottle with everything from classic pastas to a vadouvan-dusted roasted cauliflower—because if there ever was a wine that invited frequent experimentation, it’s this soulful, medium-weight red.

We’re big advocates for drinking less-expensive wines from respected producers—especially the fragrant and robust 2019 Oddero Barbera. It’s an Italian show-stopper without the heart-stopping price tag, and we invite you to fill your cellar with it before it’s gone.
