Goichot’s Got Connections

In Burgundy, skyrocketing vineyard prices mean purchasing prime plots requires a couple of commas in your account balance—and a string of low-yielding vintages means grapes from superb sites are more coveted than ever among négociants.

In short, you need connections. Good thing the Goichot family has spent over half a century cultivating them.

Since 1947, the family-run négociant house has been building a portfolio of exceptional sources in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune, and the Côte Chalonnaise. So when the 2020 vintage blessed the region with quality across the board—earning a rare, near-flawless 4.5-star rating from Decanter—André Goichot had a range of quality plots to choose from for their Bourgogne.

From these grapes, Goichot turned out a beautifully focused wine. With classic aromas of maraschino cherry, forest floor, mushroom, raspberry, and vanilla, it lands on the palate with focus and energy. Juicy acidity balances fine tannins and intricate flavors of cherry compote, espresso bean, and chocolate-covered goji berries. It’s built for maximum versatility at the table, and a knockout next to seared duck, creamy mushroom pasta, or baked fish.

This wine hails from lower-lying sites that abut prestigious cru vineyards, where well-draining limestone meets clay and marl. In an extremely dry, warm, low-yielding vintage, these lower-elevation sites produced Pinot Noir with darker, concentrated-fruit richness. Yet what made the vintage so phenomenal was that the wines didn’t sacrifice their freshness and elegance.

Exhibit A: Goichot’s Bourgogne. After eight months of aging, it shows a brilliant balance of richness, fruit vibrancy, and savory complexity. Delicious next to a range of dishes right now, it’s also got the legs to go several more years in the cellar.
