    Delightful Provence-Inspired Blanc

We haven’t been able to stop talking about the Légende de Bonpas Blanc. A bright, lively white with a stone-fruit personality, it’s a screaming value—and one of the biggest no-brainers of the year.

Bonpas has earned Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Best Buy honors, and the 2020 is our favorite-ever vintage of this wine, with an expressive nose and a stellar balance between luscious fruit and mineral-driven vibrancy.

It’s a modern take on a classic Provençal white blend—the kind that we dream about sipping next to azure-blue water in Cassis, with a bowl of bouillabaisse at our table. Grenache Blanc, which composes half the wine, provides rich fruit and gets aged on the lees for a bit of extra body, while Clairette Blanche, Bourbolenc and Vermentino round out the blend. Don’t look for oak here, though—this tank-aged beauty is all about pretty, fresh-fruit flavors.

Those grapes are particularly well suited to Bonpas’ rocky soils, which have more than a little in common with Châteauneuf-du-Pape. All of them love the region’s hot summers, and the vineyards benefit from the surrounding Parc Régional du Luberon, which helps create a healthy ecosystem in which the vines can thrive.

Luberon is one of the most exciting sources of value in France, and it’s still not on the radar of most wine lovers. Top estates there like Bonpas produce exceptional wines—but because they lack the fame of their well-traveled neighbors, prices for their bottles run much lower.

A case of samples has vanished from the office dangerously fast, probably because it’s a go-to pairing with any casual evening meal. This is a wine worth waiting for—and worth stocking up on.
