“One of the Best of the Century”
Every. Single. Year.
Hot or cold, easy or tough, it doesn’t matter. We buy Cerbaia’s Brunello every vintage we can get an allocation. It’s one of our absolute go-tos. In a great vintage like 2020—a year that Robb Report just declared to be “One of the Best of the Century”—we go even deeper in our stocks.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate said that “I could not be more pleased with 2020 Brunello di Montalcino…These are the wines I want to drink.” We couldn’t agree more. The Cerbaia shows bold aromatics of black plums and ripe cherries accented by roses and delicate dried herbs. The palate is refined and polished despite its power and depth, with Cerbaia’s Montosoli terroir showing off its influence in spades.
Cerbaia’s 12 hectares of organically farmed vineyards include nearly five in the “Grand Cru” of Montosoli—possibly the most coveted land in Tuscany—which put them in a perfect position to capitalize on a year that turned into one of Montalcino’s best of the decade.
Mother Nature blessed Tuscany with near-perfect growing conditions in 2020—a mild spring followed by warm, sun-drenched summer days and cool nights that preserved crucial acidity. September brought gentle rains at precisely the right moment, allowing the Sangiovese to achieve exceptional phenolic ripeness without sacrificing structure.
Wine Advocate noted of 2020: “The wines are surely more immediate and accessible thanks to the polished nature of the tannins and the appetite-provoking acidity. These 2020 Brunello di Montalcino releases will make an epic companion to your favorite meals, and many bottles are nearly ready to drink straight out of the gate.”
