“To Understand the Great Lafites…”

Lafite Rothschild, the First Growth known for combining Pauillac’s power with an aristocratic elegance, is a bucket-list wine in any vintage.

But the 2020 is extraordinary, even considering Lafite’s place in the Bordeaux Pantheon. It earned 100-point scores from James Suckling, Wine Enthusiast, and Jeb Dunnuck. “Refined, elegant, and perfection are the buzz words here,” wrote Dunnuck. He added that “it will probably hit its 100th birthday in fine form.”

This is the height of Bordeaux and one of the world’s greatest collector wines, and our bottles are direct from the Lafite cellars with perfect provenance.

Lafite has been one of the iconic wines of France since Louis XV and Thomas Jefferson both sang its praises in the 1700s, and it remains one of the most collectible wines in the world today. That status means the winery can afford to reinvest in quality like few others, from intensive vineyard management all the way to the cellar.

The estate’s Plateau des Carruades stands as the highest point of the Pauillac appellation, which means it’s extremely well-draining and has fantastic sun exposure. Overall, it provides perfect ripening conditions for the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Lafite has their own cooperage, a rare luxury that allows them to tailor each barrel to the specific vineyard block it will contain. Combine that with various sizes of wood, stainless steel, and concrete fermentation tanks and you have a recipe for nearly unmatched precision in the vinification and aging of their wines.

2020 was an early vintage, with a mid-August rain that boosted ripening. The result is an expressive powerhouse of a wine that captures the magic of Pauillac in legendary style. It will be the centerpiece of any collection for decades—or perhaps a century—to come.
