The prospect of snapping up a case of under-$20 rosé excites us as much as the next value-minded buyer, especially with spring and summer beckoning. Some of it is good, some is great, and a few bottles qualify as absolutely exquisite. The mouthwatering Domaine de Triennes Rosé Méditerranée, as Wine Access members have attested for years, dominates in the third category.

Factor in that it’s crafted by two legends of Burgundy—Domaine de la Romanée-Conti co-owner Aubert de Villaine and Domaine Dujac’s Jacques Seysses—and you’ve got the makings of one of the greatest rosé deals in Provence.

Our last offer of the Triennes Rosé reaped a bounty of five-star member reviews. Impassioned Wine Access customers called it the “best rosé there is,” “a winner,” and “my go-to rosé.” As you might imagine, it disappeared fast, so when it comes to this 2020, we’ll endorse our favorite line from those raves: “Just buy the case.”

A brilliant, pale pink in color, the 2020 has all the freshness and focus that made its sibling such a hit and then some. Its refreshing aromas showcase enticing nectarine, star fruit, and yellow watermelon, with tones of strawberry and white flowers. A sip reveals intriguing wet-stone and polished-steel notes, constructing a clean, lifted palate. This is Provence prestige and sophistication with extraordinary brightness.

With day jobs making some of the ultra-coveted wines of Burgundy, it’s no surprise that Aubert and Jacques have, over the years, held to rigorously high standards, continuously elevating their already-remarkable wines. When first scouting for a vineyard to work on together, they spent a full year searching, but still hadn’t found land that matched their world-class standards.

At last, in the summer of 1989, an estate located due east of Aix-en-Provence hit the bullseye. The hillside plantings enjoyed perfect southern exposure, while the soils were a rugged mix of clay and limestone, giving this wine its characteristic freshness and elegance. The spot was cooler than Aix-en-Provence, yet bathed in Provençal sunshine.

On hot afternoons, the steady breeze off the Mediterranean takes the bite out of the summer sun, refreshing the vines as it cleanses them. At nearly 1,400 feet in elevation, the temperature plunges when the sun sets. The cool nights kept this 2020’s acids firm, buttressing the juiciness of the low-yielding Cinsault, Syrah, Grenache, and Merlot.

The incredible value of this Domaine de Triennes Rosé is no secret among Wine Access members. Stash away at least a few bottles, or better yet a case of this remarkable rosé before it’s gone.
