The Pinnacle of Côte Rôtie
We have long had a special love and reverence for E. Guigal—especially for their “La La” Côte-Rôties, which represent the pinnacle of winegrowing and winemaking.
These iconic small-production, single-vineyard wines have earned 30 perfect scores from Wine Advocate—as many as Petrus, Lafite-Rothschild, Haut-Brion, and Mouton-Rothschild combined. They’re bottles that go beyond gilding a collection: They provide a transcendent and moving experience.
La Landonne, planted in the 1970s, is situated on one of the steepest vineyards of Côte-Rotie’s Côte Brune. It’s a steep slope that requires harvesters to pick from the bottom of the vineyard and work their way up, using sleds that drag the bins up the hill. Typically the last of the “La Las” to be harvested, La Landonne brings full power and dark, brooding fruit.
The 100-point 2020 is one that will delight collectors, whether now or in the long run. As Jeb Dunnuck noted: “If you ever wanted to try a truly great young La Landonne, this might be the one given its incredible fruit and texture.” Then again, you could wait for 40+ years. You truly can’t lose.
