Bourgogne Blanc is the everyday face of white Burgundy, the workhorse bottling from a region better known for its grand names. But every so often, one comes along that drinks well above its station, reminding us why Chardonnay found its truest voice here in the first place.

This is one of those bottles, and a good part of the reason is the vintage. Many in Burgundy consider 2020 the finest white-wine year in recent memory: a warm, dry, remarkably early growing season that, against every expectation, delivered whites of startling freshness and clarity. The comparisons run to benchmark years like 2017, and the through-line is always the same, vivid acidity, purity, and an energy that lifts everything from Grand Cru down to humble Bourgogne.

The wine is 100% Chardonnay, drawn from vineyards across Burgundy’s key white-wine departments: the Yonne in the north, home to Chablis; the storied Côte d’Or; and the gentler Saône-et-Loire to the south. Each corner contributes something of its own, and together they offer a portrait of the region as a whole rather than a single village’s accent.

It helps that Chardonnay is at home here in a way it is nowhere else on earth. Burgundy is where the grape learned to speak, and even at the regional level that fluency comes through, in the balance of fruit and stone, in the way the wine feels both generous and precise at the same time.

What lands in the glass is all golden light and lift. Yellow and white blossoms open the nose, threaded with a zesty streak of Meyer lemon and a wrap of orchard fruit. The palate follows with a crisp bite of yellow apple, bright acidity, and a round, easy texture that carries a surprisingly long finish.
