That’s all that was made of the 2020 Devil’s Well Cabernet: a mere 100 cases of dark, powerful Napa Cab that normally merits a $115 price-tag and flagship status on the winery’s website.
Once our Master Sommelier, Sur Lucero, got wind that some was available, he set to work. Calls were made, deals were proffered, reminders were issued—and he emerged with a tiny, hugely discounted allocation of 35 cases for our members.
Sourced from a top site in Napa that’s protected by an absolutely ironclad NDA, this wine has the type of power and intensity that’ll wow collectors. What we CAN tell you about the vineyard is that it's blessed with volcanic soils and cooling afternoon breezes that thicken grape skins and extend the growing season, allowing for maximum intensity to develop—which is how you end up with a powerful wine like the 2020 Devil’s Well.
Aged in 50% new oak for 15 months to soften tannins and polish the rugged Cabernet to a luxurious shine, it’s easy to see why this bottle goes for triple digits at the winery. But because of our members’ support for owner Clay Shannon’s wines over the last year, we managed to get it at a ridiculously low price.
