Ask Your Friends How Much They Think This Costs

When you open your first bottle of Tenuta Degli Dei’s Le Redini, make sure your closest connoisseur friends are close by. Ask them how much they think it costs.

The product of a stupendous vintage and a member-favorite winery—owned by the notoriously detail-oriented Roberto Cavalli—the 2020 Le Redini shows off the kind of quality-to-price ratio we rarely see in Super Tuscans.

Tenuta Degli Dei enjoys privileged terroir in Tuscany’s famed Conca d’Oro—the “Golden Basin,'' home to some of Chianti’s most iconic wines. Their Le Redini combines a Right Bank suaveness with a hint of the wild Italian countryside in a bottle we can’t get enough of. Vinous called it “terrific,” and it earned a chorus of critical praise.

Roberto Cavalli is a famous fashion designer who had been coming to this picturesque Tuscan village—a stone’s throw from the stunning Romanesque parish church in San Leolino—since the early 1970s. He eventually bought the breathtaking estate, which came with a small vineyard that was in complete disrepair. In 2000, Roberto’s son Tommaso Cavalli set about planting the vineyard anew. It achieved organic certification in 2021.

Roberto may not have known it, but he had stumbled across a genuine viticultural goldmine. The estate is located in the heart of Tuscany’s iconic Conca d’Oro, or “Golden Basin.” This amphitheater-like cradle near Panzano is seemingly custom-made for grape growing, thanks to its ideal microclimate, high-altitude vineyards, and south-facing orientation.

In 2020, this iconic Tuscan terroir delivered in spades, delivering a red wine packed with black plum, blackberry, dark chocolate, and licorice aromas, with a broad-shouldered, round richness on the palate. It’s the perfect match for your next ragù or bistecca alla fiorentina.
