Crafted in a tiny quantity, the 2021 Beau Vigne Amendment XXI Proprietary Red Napa Valley is everything a Napa red should be. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot is primarily grown on Miller Ranch in Yountville, a stellar site that has been planted since the 1890s.
That fruit is blended with grapes from Beau Vigne’s estate vines, planted to Cabernet clone 337 (sourced from Pauillac in Bordeaux) in rich volcanic soils high on Atlas Peak. The finished wine hints at the fine-grained texture and elegance of Yountville, all while channeling the heady freshness and polished power of the Vaca Range.
Fayard is truly in his element here. On arriving in Napa, he was hired by fellow French expat Philippe Melka and became a managing director, working side by side with him to help shape the world-class Cabernet Sauvignons of Dalla Valle, Métisse, Lail, and Gemstone. His touch with Cabernet and Merlot—brilliantly straddling the line between New World concentration and Old World reserve—always shines in his work with boutique properties like this one, where cuvées are sometimes limited to 80 cases!
