    A Winemaker’s Dream, Realized

“Some people might call me jaded,” began Chad. “I say I’m experienced, which is just another way of saying I’ve seen it all. But I gotta tell you…” He trailed off as he reached into his bag and pulled out an unlabeled bottle. “Getting the chance to work with fruit from this estate… well, that gave me a thrill that took me back to my earliest days making wine. Took me back to why I WANTED to make wine.”

“Impeccable dirt, diverse soils, flawless farming, the works. As far as Diamond Mountain goes, I’ll tell you this: If you had your top pick in the AVA, this would be the place—and in terms of Napa Valley terroir, I put ‘em in my Top Five. Maybe Top Three.”

Chad poured. Dark purple with midnight black core, the wine shows aromas of wild blackberries with fresh-picked herbs and violets. Boysenberry preserves, tobacco, clove, and black tea fill the palate, underscored by flavors of crushed volcanic stones, leather, and dried mushrooms. The oak is perfectly integrated, and the powerful tannins are polished and ripe.

Chad had finally gotten his hands on some dream fruit—in a fantastic vintage, no less—and he had done right by the source estate, whose famously expensive wines fetch triple digits.

He turned the subject to Wine Access. “As for your crowd, I know they like the classics. I know a bunch of ‘em are old-time Napa Cabernet fans, just like I am. Well, we can’t tell them what we’ve got here, but they’ll know.” Chad busted out a purple-tinged smile. “Trust me, they’ll know.”

From one of Diamond Mountain’s top terroirs, through Chad’s expert hands, to you.
