“Such Polish and Beauty”

We offer well over a thousand wines each year, but when it comes to stratospheric quality for the price, none of them may be a greater deal than the 2021 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port.

This is a classic Port that earned raves from two major critics: Jeb Dunnuck awarded it 96 points, praising it as “beautifully balanced, [with] a terrific sense of freshness.” James Suckling called it a wine of “such polish and beauty.”

Quinta do Noval’s flagship bottling is Nacional, which is made only in the finest vintages, and the ‘21 earned 98 points from Dunnuck—just two points higher than this one. It goes for about $1,000 more.

At age 307, Quinta do Noval is not only one of the oldest port houses, it is arguably the greatest. Unlike most in the region, all of Noval’s wines are made entirely from estate-grown grapes, farmed from vineyards near the sleepy town of Pinhão since 1715.

But throughout their history, Noval has never made wines like they do today—the result of a 30-year quality resurgence that hasn’t escaped the notice of the wine press, with Decanter recently cooing, “Quinta do Noval is a jewel.”

Noval excelled in the very good 2021 growing season, declaring not only this wine but also the 2021 Nacional. The year shows the house’s signature power and concentration—all while maintaining a finesse and vibrancy that’s a hallmark of the vintage.

Quinta do Noval still makes wine the old-fashioned way, foot-treading the grapes to gently extract the juice without drawing excess tannins from the seeds, and carefully managing barrel aging. The result, as this incredible 2021 shows, is timeless.
