25+ Years Led to This

When legendary 100-point vintner Joey Tensley tells you a bottle is “one of the most complex and complete whites I’ve made in my 25+ year career,” you listen.

When Wine Advocate gives the same wine a 97-point score—placing it alongside collectibles by Peter Michael ($140+) and Aubert ($200+)—and it comes at a FRACTION of the price of the competition, you drop what you’re doing and grab some.

That wine is the 2021 Tensley P2KV Blanc Zaca Mesa Vineyard. A stunning, old-vine, Rhône-style white grown at one of Joey’s most precious sources, it’s a thrilling, brand-new bottling from one of our members’ all-time favorite producers.

The P2KV is one of the most phenomenal whites we’ve tasted this year. Boasting an exotic nose of tropical fruit and saline, a juicy, seamless texture, and the concentration and complexity that only comes from old vines, it’s a one-of-a-kind, world-class bottle.

The Roussanne and Viognier vines Tensley tapped for this wine were planted on two blocks back in 1997. They were some of the first vines of those grapes planted in Santa Barbara County—in fact, the varieties were so scarcely known then that the Viognier was thought to be Roussanne, until exacting vintners and lab results proved otherwise.

It was serendipitous, because the wine he would later make from the site—today’s phenomenal P2KV Blanc—is a gorgeous blend of both grapes, floral and herbaceous and lush. Fermented in old barrels and put through only 35% malolactic fermentation, it’s a phenomenal old-vine white, and the kind of elite bottle that you just can’t normally get for anywhere in the two-digit price range.
