The Valley’s Best-Kept Secret

Alexander Valley has long been one of California’s most reliable addresses for Bordeaux-style reds. The combination of warm days, cool nights funneled in off the Pacific, and well-drained soils produces wines with the ripeness to drink well young and the structure to reward patience—which is why names like Silver Oak, Aperture, and Vérité have made it their home.

Trione is one of the Valley’s great farming families. Vic and Mark Trione have been cultivating prime sites across Sonoma County for over four decades, with ranches in Alexander Valley, the Russian River Valley, and the Sonoma Coast. Every bottle of Trione wine is estate-grown—no outside fruit, no exceptions.

Henry’s Blend draws its fruit from Geyserville Ranch, Trione’s 80-acre site on the Valley floor. The soils are a mix of fine gravel over clay loam and river silt, and cool marine air funnels in each night through the Russian River corridor—slowing ripening and building the kind of freshness and complexity that makes Alexander Valley so compelling for Bordeaux varieties.

The 2021 vintage was exceptional across the Valley. Warm, sunny days and pronounced diurnal temperature swings produced wines of remarkable concentration and precision—a growing season that delivered both the weight to impress now and the architecture to improve in the cellar.

Winemaker John Duckett came to Trione after serving as enologist at Jordan, one of the Valley’s most storied estates. He brings that same commitment to precision and restraint to Henry’s Blend, a wine that reflects the site rather than the cellar. The blend runs approximately 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Malbec—a composition that holds largely consistent vintage to vintage.

Duckett aged the wine 18 months in French oak, roughly 40% new—enough to add structure and spice without masking the fruit underneath. It’s the kind of winemaking that lets Alexander Valley speak for itself.

In the glass, Henry’s Blend delivers a dark purple core with aromas of violet and ripe plum. The palate is juicy and full, with silky tannins and a long, layered finish. It drinks well now and has the structure to continue developing in the cellar.
