From a Star St. Helena’s Winery

The 2021 Yesterday Cabernet comes from one of the most pedigreed wineries in Napa Valley—a celebrated St. Helena site with over a century of history and several of Napa Valley’s top names behind it.

Of course, in the NDA game, great prestige requires great discretion, so we’re prohibited to get into details about the source. But trust us when we say the vintner is known for some of the deepest, densest, most statuesque $200+ Cabernets in Napa Valley—and once you swirl, sniff, and take a sip of this wine, you won’t question the pedigree. In fact, we’d bet that some of our more gifted Cabernet aficionados will be able to peg the place blind.

This deal came from a close connection. A member of the Wine Access team has his own passion-project Cabernet label, and his winemaker, a very close friend, is a winemaker at the St. Helena estate in question. She, of course, raved to our colleague about the quality of the 2021 Cabernet harvest, and as the wine aged in barrel, she kept him apprised of the tasting, selection, and blending going on at her work. When it came time for the final blending and bottling, her boss—the epitome of a Napa Valley A-lister—decided that ten barrels didn’t quite fit into the vintage plan.

We were there the next day, tasting through the barrels that were going into the $200+ flagship, as well as the ones we might have a shot at. And man oh man, after 22 months in 50% new French oak, the Cabernet in those barrels was every bit as deep, dark, nuanced, and delicious as the wines associated with this famous place.
