    Advocate: “A Great Value”

“For those of us who can’t afford or even find great bottles of Burgundy, Willamette Valley Chardonnay is a dream come true, offering the sunny flesh of US fruit and the focused, laser-like acidity more often associated with European wines, and for a fraction of the price.”

Those are the words of the Wine Advocate, which has been touting the rise of Willamette Valley Chardonnay for several vintages. Our experience only confirms what their glowing praise indicates—and we can’t name a better value than Jim Maresh’s Petite Tan Fruit.

Jim dreamed up this bottling because he felt like Oregon Chardonnay had gotten a bit too precious. He named his new wine “Petite Tan Fruit,” inspired by Petit Chablis. That ethos extends to his winemaking, as well, as he ferments and then ages his wine entirely in stainless steel.

But Maresh is quality-obsessed from top to bottom, so the wine sees a full ten months in élevage—much longer than most wines at this price—before going into bottle. It’s also sourced from a network of trusted vineyards that he’s developed over the course of his career. They’re the sort of connections that are only possible when you grow up immersed in the Pacific Northwest’s wine industry, and they create a level of distinction in this wine that outclasses its modest price. Lay it in by the case.
