An Absolutely Prime Russian River Site

These days, the top echelon of Pinot Noir in Russian River Valley goes for $75, $100, even $150 per bottle. Everything about the 2022 Bricoleur Vineyards Pinot Noir Russian River Valley fits in with those blue-chip bottles—except the price we secured.

Bricoleur Vineyards proprietor Mark Hanson has a keen eye for vineyard real estate, and you couldn’t pick a better spot in Sonoma to grow Pinot Noir than their estate vineyard in Windsor. It used to supply grapes to names like Paul Hobbs, Merry Edwards, and Patz & Hall before all the fruit went in-house. Not only that, but Williams-Selyem sources from the next hill over, and Kistler is only a couple miles away.

Mark’s keen eye also extends to winemaking talent. Tom Pierson is Bricoleur Vineyards’ day-to-day winemaker, and he’s one of Sonoma’s rising young stars. But the big decisions on this 2022 were made by Cary Gott—best known as Joel Gott’s dad, and one of Napa’s most respected winemakers (he’s got over 50 harvests under his belt)—and the legendary Bob Cabral.

Cabral is a Sonoma icon who helmed Williams-Selyem for nearly two decades. He advised informally with Bricoleur Vineyards for years before signing on as their consulting winemaker in 2023. His valuable input in blending this Pinot Noir and giving the wine its final shape results in a real Williams-Selyem–inspired style, with minimal oak presence and beautiful Russian River fruit.

2022 was an outstanding vintage across Sonoma, with late-season warmth driving ripeness and softening tannins as the grapes reached the finish line. This Pinot shows off the season’s richness and silkiness, with soaring aromatics and a juicy finish that we can’t get enough of. The winery sells most of their bottles on-site—their top-flight kitchen makes some incredible pairings to go with the tasting room experience—which is why we’re lucky to have gotten an allocation. Enjoy it!
