2022 Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon California 750 ml

Since 1972, Caymus has made the definitive Cab-lover’s Cab. Their iconic Napa Valley bottling is a must-have steakhouse- and cellar-staple from the Wagner family, whose consistently delicious Cabernets have made many appearances on Wine Spectator’s Top 100.

Their 2022 California Cabernet, just the second vintage of the California bottling, hails from regions boasting the conditions to produce excellent Cabernet Sauvignon: places like Paso Robles, as well as Lake, Monterey, and San Benito counties. It’s textbook Caymus, and it shows what’s possible when five decades of family know-how are brought to bear in a new wine. 

The Caymus name is so big that it can overshadow one of the most important facts about the winery: After five decades of success, it is STILL family-owned. In Napa Valley, where some of the most famous names have cashed in on their pioneering cachet by selling to much larger enterprises, Caymus is still run by the founding family, the Wagners. That alone makes it something of a rarity. 

But it’s the wine, of course, that truly sets Caymus and the Wagners apart, and the family is still following the same path that put them on top. Dedicated as always to making Cabernet that can thrive in the cellar but is approachable early, the Wagners achieved the Caymus signature style in this 2022 Cab.
