Top Value Bordeaux Across Three Centuries

We love Bordeaux as a source for great value white wines, but it’s been a while since we’ve tasted one that offers Kressmann Monopole’s bang for the buck.

They blend Sauvignon Blanc from two different terroirs—one provides exceptional aromatics and fruit purity, the other a bright structure and saline minerality. The result is a bottle that delivers big-time for the price—and boasts 93 points from the Decanter World Wine Awards.

It all started when, in 1897, Edouard Kressmann had a vision.

Bordeaux’s marketplace was dominated by châteaus, each making one or two grand vins. But he knew that blending terroirs from across the region could allow him to make bottles of exceptional quality. So he created Kressmann Monopole, which achieved such fame that Adelina Patti—the Beyoncé of her day—requested his white wine whenever she went out on tour.

These days, Kressmann Monopole is the oldest branded Bordeaux still around—and it still delivers fantastic quality at an exceptional price. In 2022, the venerable house was treated to a stunning, warm vintage that suited itself perfectly to producing the sort everyday stunner we’ve come to love.

Kressmann blended Sauvignon Blanc planted on white, sandy soils—which are known for their aromatic intensity and power—with Sauvignon planted on plots heavy in clay and limestone, which contribute vibrancy and structure. It’s a testament to the power of blending to create a wine greater than the sum of its parts—one whose “poised palate” was lauded by the Decanter World Wine Awards. We’ll add our praise to that chorus.
