Luxe Pedigree and Treatment, Fantastic Price

Let’s talk about the going rate for Benoit Touquette’s Napa Cabs. The ones he makes for Realm, including Moonracer and The Absurd, can go for well over $1,500. Even his reasonably priced Fait-Main Cabs cost $200+ (and are worth every dime).

But Teeter-Totter, Benoit’s other personal label, delivers his profound expertise and premium vineyard sources in a profoundly opulent package. That’s why Jeb Dunnuck said it can “easily compete with wine that costs 3–4 times its going rate.” Vinous’s Antonio Galloni has called Teeter-Totter “just about as good as it gets” for Napa value.

And just like the 2021—which has rocked the member ratings to the tune of 4.4 stars—it’s going to please our members on the level of some of the finest wines we offer.

This is one of Napa Cab’s greatest values, bar none, which is why Teeter-Totter usually sells out. We tend to get one allocation per year, so be sure to grab it while it’s here.

Teeter-Totter Cabernet is an undisputed Wine Access favorite, and it’s easy to see why: At this price it brings all of Benoit Touquette’s talents to bear—in the cellar, yes, but also in sourcing grapes from top Napa Valley sites. 85% of the 2022 Teeter Totter was grown in the prime AVA of Rutherford and the rest is from Calistoga.

When Benoit Touquette left his home in Bordeaux for California’s Cabernet epicenter, he aimed for the top—so he positioned himself deftly alongside Andy Erickson at Ovid and Screaming Eagle. He also chose a stellar mentor in Michel Rolland, the world-famous consulting winemaker whose name is on 100-pointers by Harlan, Bond, and Araujo. Touquette and Rolland remain close to this day, and the latter’s influence shows in the high scores Touquette’s wines garner—and in this edition of Teeter-Totter.

The 2022 edition benefited from timely early rains, followed by a warm, sun-filled growing season, capped with a hot summer. The resulting wines delivered what the Teeter-Totter team called “crazy concentration” along with velvety tannins. This is what we’d call a masterful, under-$100 expression of great Napa terroir and winemaking. It’s unquestionably one of the greatest and most pedigreed Cabernet deals going.
