    Boisset’s Hot Streak Continues

Bouchard Aine isn’t just one of the the most historic houses in Burgundy, it’s also one of the crown jewels of Jean-Charles Boisset’s portfolio. The Burgundy impresario is one of the most quality-obsessed people in wine, and that shows in his recent streak of awards: He earned fourteen scores from James Suckling at 95 points and more—just in the ‘22 vintage alone.

So in a starry 2023 vintage, you can bet that Bouchard Aine et Fils’ Chablis is an absolute rockstar. Our VP of Wine, Eduardo Dingler, declared it was “capturing lightning and the essence of Chablis” when he tasted it.

Founded in 1750 in Beaune, the historical heart of Burgundy, Bouchard Aîné et Fils has built a stellar reputation over nearly three centuries of winemaking. Owned by the Boisset family since 1993, this respected négociant has carved out a distinctive niche in their ability to provide textbook examples of Burgundy at prices that remain reasonable—thanks to the generations of vineyard acquisition and carefully nurtured relations with growers.

That paid big dividends in 2023—a beautifully warm vintage. Flowering in early June occurred under ideal conditions, and a very large crop was set on the vines, setting the stage for abundance despite the obstacles ahead. The late-season heat wave that swept through the region in September proved to be the vintage's saving grace, allowing grapes to reach optimal maturity and delivering wines with generous fruit character while preserving the crystalline minerality that defines great Chablis.

Decanter awarded the year four stars, noting: “The best results are in line with recent sunny vintages (such as 2018–2020 and 2022), with ripe orchard and stone fruit, a lush texture, balanced acidity and plenty of extract.”
