Burgundy Value Like We Seldom See

Once upon a time, $25 would reliably buy you a nice bottle of white Burgundy. These days? You’ve got better chances playing the slots at the Reno airport.

Unless, of course, you’re talking about the 2023 Cellier du Château de la Chaume Chardonnay Bourgogne. It’s the kind of white Burgundy that rarely exists these days—the kind that got us into Burgundy in the first place.

The 2023 Cellier du Château de la Chaume Chardonnay Bourgogne is imported by Fran Kysela, the Master Sommelier who Robert Parker called “one of the finest palates and selectors of top wine, whether it be an inexpensive Muscadet or a top of the line Burgundy." Kysela’s been in the wine business for over four decades, and his name is pure gold.

And the things that attracted Kysela to this wine are obvious: It’s made by a dynamic producer who has access to absolutely top-tier Chardonnay—and they work with sites from Chablis to the Mâcon, ensuring that their Bourgogne can be blended to maximize the strength of the vintage.

The Cellier du Château de la Chaume was founded in 1993 to highlight the heritage of the historic château whose name they take, and to produce wines that reflect the excellence of the region. Partnering with growers who share its values, the estate takes a thoughtful approach to selecting fruit and crafting wines that stand out for their authenticity and quality.

The cellar in Corgoloin—which lies between Beaune and Nuits in the heart of the Côte d’Or—is in the château itself, which has long been part of the region’s history, once belonging to the influential Marey-Monge family of Beaune.

This Bourgogne Chardonnay embodies the classic elegance that has made the region synonymous with the variety itself. Here is a wine that speaks to both Burgundy's illustrious past and its promising future—crafted by hands that understand the delicate balance between tradition and innovation that defines the world's most revered white wine region. Pair it with herb-dusted roast chicken, flounder meunière, or anything featuring chanterelles.
