2023 Devil's Well Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 750 ml

Great vintages should have Napa Valley bargain-hunters licking their chops. 

That’s because a solid growing season truly lifts all boats, and the 2023 season—which would later be described by The Wine Independent as a “once in a lifetime” vintage—amounted to the kind of swell we rarely see. From the $500+ collectibles to the bargain bottles, we are seeing absolutely phenomenal 2023 Napa wines roll in. 

It’s in that context that we get the 2023 Devil’s Well. The last one we offered came from the ‘21 vintage, another phenomenal season…and we think this one is even better. Sourced from top Napa sites protected by an absolutely ironclad NDA, it’s deep and dark, with bountiful aromas of  warm blackberry, dark cherry, and smashed black plum and a rich, round, and velvety palate with attractive suppleness on a silky long finish. 

While we can’t name the vineyards, we can tell you that Devil’s Well comes from sites in beautiful Napa Valley locations—including the high-dollar neighborhood of Oakville. This edition was given an even more luxurious cellar treatment than past vintages, aging in 60% new French oak for 18 months. 

That stretch in the cellar softened the tannins and polished the rugged Cabernet to a luxurious shine—it’s easy to see why this bottle goes for triple digits at the winery. But owner Clay Shannon’s wines have gotten so popular with our members, we managed to get this price as a thank-you for our support.
