It Was Light When We Started…

It doesn’t matter why we’re in NYC or what time of day it is. When we wander within a six-block radius of Grand Central Terminal, we swing by the Oyster Bar for a dozen Blue Points and a glass of Chablis.

So when we found ourselves at 42nd and 5th on a sunny but cool early-April day, stopping in was automatic. It didn’t hurt that it was at the end of the workday, and we could wrap up the day on our laptop while slurping oysters…and, it turned out, the 2023 Domaine Jolly Chablis.

Look—we’re getting a glass of Chablis with our oysters, no matter what. But it’s the rare by-the-glass Chablis that inspires us to upgrade to a bottle when our first glasses are empty, and that’s exactly what we did that day. Of course, the oysters ran out before the bottle was gone, and so we ordered a Cherrystone Pan Roast and a hunk of halibut. By the time we were streetside again, night was falling and we were sated.

Domaine Jolly is a fourth-generation house, and their 2023 Chablis was grown on their 30 acres in the Chablis appellation (they have other holdings in Petit Chablis and the Fourchaume Premier Cru). There’s no mystery why the Oyster Bar chose this for the list—it’s the textbook example of Chablis.

With the weather warming, this might just be the perfect Chablis to sip with seafood at home, or just on its own. We were lucky to get it, and we know you’ll love it.
