A Secret from the South of France

In his films, Ridley Scott builds worlds. And the director has transformed his own corner of Provence into one of the region's most exciting wine stories.

Scott and his family have owned Mas des Infermières since 1992. The estate sits in Luberon, a region overshadowed by the famed appellations of the South of France, but well deserving of its own acclaim.

Visually, the place is stunning, a cinematic landscape of medieval stone villages and ancient terraces. The 2023 Mas des Infermières Chevalier Blanc is a gorgeous example of the kind of wine it can produce. In this case, a fresh, floral, and enticing white.

Comprising 40% Rolle (also known as Vermentino) with Roussanne and Clairette, grown on clay and sand soils rich in limestone, it’s got a platinum core and aromas of Meyer lemon, white flowers, mandarin blossoms, with white peach and earth tones. The palate is vibrant, with citrus and stone fruit in the middle, plus excellent acidity that carries a lasting finish.

The "Chevalier" name honors the region's medieval heritage, evoking the knights and nobility who are still closely associated with this historic region of France. When we taste this lively yet rich bottle, our minds instantly go to the seafood of France’s coast—we’re hungry for scallops, baked whitefish, and octopus whenever we take a sip.

Don’t be surprised if you see white wines from Luberon popping up on more and more wine lists. For now, enjoy this one, knowing you’re in on a big secret from the South of France.
