“There Will Be No Further Explanation”

“There will be no further explanation. There will just be reputation.”

It was quite the response from the brand director after we texted them to see if there was something—anything, really—we could say about the wine that was in our glasses.

The wine was incredible, absolutely everything we’re after in Napa Cab, but after a reply like that? Our pride was worth something, after all. We were wondering exactly how much it was worth (the wine was really good) when a younger, hipper colleague walked in and cued us in on the reference. It was a joke (ask your kids).

When we followed up again though, they were basically serious: No information about the 2023 Reputation Cabernet could be shared, beyond a couple tidbits: There was a splash of of Merlot and Petit Verdot in there, and oh, yeah—we definitely had heard of the vineyard. No hints. They had an ironclad NDA, and apparently the site was really easy to identify off of only a couple details.

But ultimately, the wine speaks for itself, and it’s a certified-platinum hit.

You're going to pour this and immediately appreciate that deep, inky ruby color—the kind of concentration you look for in a serious bottle. The nose delivers classic black cherry and cassis, backed by graphite and dark cocoa—the hallmarks of a wine that's been crafted with care.

Your first taste will show you what well-made wine is all about: lush fruit, but with the structure and restraint that comes from quality fruit and skilled winemaking. We found layers of plum and black currant giving way to chocolate, earth, and cedar—the kind of complexity that rewards your attention. We’re glad we eventually got the reference, and we’re thrilled we got the wine. Enjoy.
