2024 Chateau Montrose St. Estephe 750 ml
Château Montrose is among the Left Bank’s most extraordinary properties. Just last year, Wine Advocate’s William Kelley said Montrose is “routinely among Bordeaux's very best, year in, year out.” The Super Second Growth’s deep gravel is comparable in the Médoc only to Château Latour—and their newest edition does their outstanding terroir extremely proud. “Montrose was one of the terroirs favored by the 2024 vintage,” noted Kelley in his 95-point review of this year’s wine. He summed it up as “a serious, muscular effort that numbers among the wines of the vintage.” For the collectors thinking about the long term, there’s more: Due to its low pH and high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine will age as well as just about any made in the Médoc. Put it all together, and the 2024 Montrose—which also earned 95 points from Jane Anson and 94–96 from Vinous—is one of the finest Bordeaux of the year. For just $110, it’s an absolute steal for the cellar.

Billionaire brothers Martin and Olivier Bouygues’ are at the helm of Montrose, which is the definition of a Super Second—an establishment that rivals Bordeaux’s five First Growths.
The Montrose vineyard comprises a huge chunk of land, set right up against an estuary in Saint-Estèphe. The proximity to the soothing breezes of the Gironde protects vines from frost damage in early spring and helps temper the summer heat, postponing the call to harvest, and making for a consistent, terrifically concentrated blend year in and year out.
Montrose is, as William Kelley of the Wine Advocate put it, a “de facto First Growth.” It’s a collector-worthy wine that can anchor a cellar for decades.
