Early Contender for Bubbly Buy of the Year!
In 2020, there were 553 Champagnes entered in Decanter’s World Wine Awards.
Cave de Beblenheim’s Crémant d’Alsace outscored 523 of them—that’s 95%—joining some pretty posh company.
Savvy bubble-hounds know France’s crémants are fantastic Champagne alternatives. Made from the same grape varieties, produced in regions loaded with winemaking expertise, and priced for frequent drinking—what’s not to love?
As clean and expressive as Champagnes that cost three times as much, sporting a better score than hundreds of others, we simply cannot point to a Blanc de Noirs that delivers more quality for the price than Cave de Beblenheim’s crémant.
The growers of the Cave de Beblenheim cooperative banded together in 1952, and today produce enough to give them the economy of scale needed to produce such a thrilling value. Beblenheim is also one of a very few cooperatives to have earned HVE 3 (High Environmental value)—the highest level of this prestigious certification—which they achieved in 2021.
This Pinot Noir–based wine is given a rest of two to five years before disgorgement, developing similar complexity and character to a nonvintage Champagne.
The wine’s fine bead of bubbles is the first clue you’re in for something special. Put your nose to the glass and you’ll be greeted with fruity, toasty aromas of strawberries, vanilla brioche, red apples, jasmine, and cherries. Creamy and full on the palate but balanced by a refreshing acidity, it boasts rich flavors of toasted golden apple, quince, chamomile, honey, and vanilla.
Showing beautifully now, it’s ideal as an aperitif or to close out a successful meal.
