Côte des Bar's Pinot Noir Power

Champagne Charles Collin, one of the region's first cooperatives, founded in 1952 and still guided by its founder's philosophy: "the best of modernity for the best of tradition."

They’re based in the Côte des Bar, the southern pocket of Champagne where Pinot Noir dominates. The chalky soils and continental climate produce grapes with depth and structure, and the cooperative model allows them to draw from the best parcels across their growers' estates. It wasn't until 1993 that the house began marketing wines under the Charles Collin brand, honoring the founder while establishing a clear identity.

The house was founded in 1952, but it wasn't until 1993 that the decision was made to market the wines under the Charles Collin brand—a tribute to the founder and a statement of intent. Today, every bottle reflects that founding vision, with all winemaking handled in-house from the hand-picking of grapes to the final dosage. This is Champagne made with patience and precision.

For this Brut, that means working with a blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay—a composition that emphasizes the character of the Côte des Bar while maintaining elegance and finesse. The wine includes 25% reserve wines, adding complexity and depth, and spends a minimum of 3 years aging on lees in temperature-controlled cellars. The grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected before being pressed in pneumatic presses, then fermented in stainless steel tanks with both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation carefully managed.

Pour a glass and you'll notice the beautiful golden tinge right away. The nose opens with white peach and Meyer lemon, followed by green apple with hints of spice and ginger. On the palate, the wine is fruit-driven and fleshy, with that citrus and spice carrying through to a long finish. It’s a perfect pairing with shellfish of all stripes—we especially love it with fried shrimp—and would be more than at home with gougères before a meal as well.
