About Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin

Benoit Droin represents the 14th Droin generation to make wine in Chablis. The family has been here, making wine, for nearly five centuries, dating all the way back to 1620. Since 2002, however, the estate has taken new form; Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin was formed officially in 2002.

Benoit's father, Jean Paul, ran the estate from 1983 to 1999, inheriting the trade from his father and grandfather before him. During his time as manager Jean Paul favored wines with pronounced oak characteristics. Now that Benoit is running the show, however, the oak has been on the way out. The Droin vineyards are scattered throughout the four Chablis appellations, but are concentrated in the exceptional premier and grand cru vineyards. 25 hectares total are planted exclusively to Chardonnay, the dominant variety in Chablis. The domaine produces as many different wines as there have been Droin generations -- 14 -- bottled according to vineyard, but are generally characterized by a buttery richness paired with a raciness and purity of fruit.
