Barolo and Burgundy Lovers’ Best Kept Secret

Barolo and Burgundy Lovers’ Best Kept Secret

For the third year in a row, Alpha Estate’s ancient-vine red earned 94 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate — a first for a Greek winery. Long considered the finest winery in all of Greece, Alpha has now earned its place alongside the elite of Napa, Bordeaux, and Burgundy. The Advocate raved that the 2013 Alpha Estate Xinomavro Reserve “is arguably Alpha Estate’s best ever,” and “quite brilliant on so many levels.”  Indigenous to Northern Greece, many consider Xinomavro the country’s most important red grape. If you’ve never tasted it but are a fan of Barolo or Burgundy, consider this a must-try.

The ungrafted bush vines of Xinomavro in Angelos Iatridis’s 2013 Xinomavro Ecosystem Reserve Vieilles Vignes are 93 years old, the oldest in all of Northern Greece.
