    The Taste of Oakville

There’s the 100-point 2019 BV Georges de Latour Private Reserve, James Suckling’s Wine of the Year. There’s the $140 2016 Groth Reserve Cabernet. And there’s the $300+ 2018 Staglin, which boasts 98+ points from Jeb Dunnuck.

These are the kinds of Cabernets that hold Wine Access member-ratings at or above 4.5 (out of 5) stars. And standing alongside them with a stellar rating—based on even MORE customer feedback than its peers—is the Hoopes Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville.

That is the best metric we have for customer satisfaction, and it does not lie.

Sourced from the Hoopes family’s priceless 10-acre piece of land in one of the most coveted spots in the Valley—across Highway 29 from To Kalon—this Oakville Cabernet is one of the great bargains in Napa. It, just like the very first Hoopes-branded bottles, comes from the site that Spencer Hoopes purchased in 1981 and planted in 1983. For 15 years, the family sold all their Cabernet grapes, supplying some of the area’s most iconic wineries. Finally, in 1999, they decided to make their own Cabernet, and it quickly became the quality-benchmark it is today.

“This is the wine that smells like home to me,” says Lindsay Hoopes, Spencer’s daughter and the winery’s “Alpha Dog,” of the estate Cab. “This is what Cabernet from Oakville should be.” Powerful and hedonistic, lush and layered and built on well-kit tannins, it’s a phenomenal bottle that does its provenance proud.
