Written in Flat Stone

In Spanish, lastra means flat stone. It's the word this wine takes its name from, and it's the best possible introduction to what's in the bottle.

Navarra sits just northeast of Rioja, sharing much of its DNA—the same northern latitude, the same devotion to Tempranillo—yet it has spent generations in its more famous neighbor's shadow. For those who go looking, that's precisely the appeal. The best wines here deliver the structure and depth you'd expect from Rioja, often at prices that haven't caught up with the quality.

The vineyards behind this bottle are defined by the flat stones that give the wine its name. They pave the ground, work their way into the soil, and lend the fruit a mineral concentration that carries all the way through to the glass. It's terroir you can taste rather than merely read about.

The blend is a classic Navarra arrangement: Tempranillo at its heart, filled out with Cabernet Sauvignon and a measure of Syrah. Tempranillo brings the red fruit and savory backbone, Cabernet adds firmness and grip, and Syrah rounds everything with a dark, spiced depth. It's a combination Navarra has quietly made its own.

Patience is the final ingredient. The wine spends 18 months in oak barrels—80% French, 20% American—followed by a further two years resting in bottle before release. That unhurried approach is why it arrives already integrated and expressive, its tannins softened and its aromatics unfurled.

Finca Albret is the boutique arm of Príncipe de Viana, one of Navarra's most accomplished houses, and a sister label to Rioja Vega and Bodegas Clunia. The estate draws on top vineyard selections and a winemaking team with a clear point of view: modern, fruit-driven wines built on genuine Navarran terroir.

What you'll find in the glass reflects all of it—the stones, the patient aging, and the region's underdog confidence.
