The Gold Standard for Chenin Blanc

Domaine Huet's legendary estate consists of three iconic parcels that all give birth to exquisite terroir-driven Chenin Blanc. The Haut Lieu and Clos de Bourg vineyards are behind many of the estate’s most stunning bottlings indeed—but for mineral-driven, high-acid, age-worthy Chenin, no site compares to Le Mont.

The 2021 Vouvray Le Mont Sec brilliantly conveys the exceptional nature of Loire Chenin Blanc, and it shows why Huet’s historic estate has, since its founding in 1928, become the gold standard of Chenin Blanc in the Loire Valley— “justly regarded as the leading property in the Vouvray region,” according to Master of Wine Clive Coates.

Huet’s three parcels compose most of Vouvray’s Première Côte (“First Slope”) and contain virtually all of the appellation’s “Grand Cru” vineyards. The pebble-strewn 20-acre Le Mont site—a plot of land that Domaine Huet has owned since 1957—is farmed biodynamically, as is the entire estate. Huet was an early adopter of the practice and stands as a model for small producers around the world. It’s just another way that the legendary producer has sought to raise their own standards.

With an intensely perfumed nose full of citrus and florals, a complex palate interwoven with exotic spices and a saline minerality, and a pithy, honeycomb-inflected finish, the 2021 Le Mont Sec is exhilarating now and poised to improve with age

We adore this wine, and we’re not exaggerating when we say that if we had to choose one reasonably priced white to cellar for the future, we couldn’t think of a better one.
