Classic Mount Veeder Power and Poise

On Mount Veeder, great Cabernet is hard-won. The vineyards sit high in the Mayacamas, on the western edge of Napa, where yields are small and the farming is demanding—but the wines off these slopes carry a power and precision that’s tough to find anywhere else in the valley.

The 2022 Majuscule Persistance is rooted in the Wildcat Vineyard, planted around 1,800 feet up on thin volcanic soils. Mornings run warm and afternoons turn cool as fog rolls off San Pablo Bay, and the rocky slopes yield small, thick-skinned berries with concentration and freshness in equal measure. It’s some of the most characterful fruit in Napa, and the heart of this wine.

Majuscule is the work of Greg Brickey and Jeff Davis. They made their first two barrels in 2009 as a side project and didn’t go official until 2018. Brickey, who trained at UC Davis, got his start knocking on doors along Mount Veeder Road looking for fruit—until he met grower Lisa Chu, who farms the Wildcat Vineyard.

The name is French for a capital letter—the opposite of minuscule—a fitting flag for a two-person operation making just a few hundred cases a year, with the hands-on attention that only that scale allows.

The 2022 vintage played to Mount Veeder’s strengths. A warm growing season gave ripe, perfumed, generous Cabernet, while the mountain sites held onto their acidity and backbone—the balance of power and freshness that defines the appellation.

In the glass, expect violets and dark cherry alongside cassis, plum, and a twist of licorice. The palate is plush and vibrant, with fine tannin carrying a long, lasting finish.
