No other wine in the world combines elegance and intensity, delicacy and impactful flavor, and sweet fruit matched to vibrant acidity like German Riesling Kabinett.

Reichsrat Von Buhl has been making some of the best in Germany since 1849—and have been famous nearly since the start. Only 20 years after their founding, Von Buhl’s wine was used to toast the official completion of the Suez canal, and they’ve gone from strength to strength each year since. Now, they own one of the most impressive collections of vineyards in the Pfalz, the southernmost of Germany’s most prestigious growing regions.

They own land in an all-star collection of organically farmed sites in the towns of Forst and Deidesheim, including Pechstein, Kirchenstück, Ungeheur, and Jesuitengarten—all Grosse Lage, or Grand Cru, vineyards. Single vineyard wines from those lagen can easily top $100 per bottle. The combination of their excellent holdings and stellar work in the cellar has also granted them entry into the VDP, an invite-only growers association that represents a who’s who of Germany winemakers.

For their Armand Kabinett, they harvest just-ripe grapes from an assortment of sites. All are picked with one goal: to balance delicately sweet, orchard-fruited flavors with bright acidities. 

In the warm 2022 vintage, this bottle shows beautiful white peaches matched with green tones of lime zest and green apples, and a discreet sweetness that is endlessly versatile at the table, with enough acidity to pair brilliantly with fried chicken and fish and the fruit to sidle up alongside a Vietnamese rice noodle salad. And that’s to say nothing of its porch appeal. But like most German Riesling, it remains one of the most overlooked—and therefore underpriced—wines of its caliber.
