A White Wine’s Rutherford Address
Rutherford’s reputation rests on red wine. The appellation sits at the heart of Napa Valley, and its deep benchland soils have been producing some of California’s most celebrated Cabernets for over a century. When a wine carries “Rutherford” on the label, that’s what most people expect. This one doesn’t follow the script.
The characteristics that make Rutherford exceptional for Cabernet translate surprisingly well to white grapes. The appellation’s deep, well-drained gravelly soils and pronounced diurnal temperature swings—warm afternoons, cool nights—preserve acidity, develop mineral character, and push grapes toward depth and precision rather than simple, forward fruit.
Acclaimed Wine Company has spent the better part of a decade making appellation-specific wines from Napa Valley’s most distinctive addresses. Their Reputation label—named for an idea borrowed from Aesop, that reputation once lost cannot be recovered—is built around that commitment to place.
The 2025 growing season was an unusually good one for Napa white wines. The Valley’s coolest summer in over 25 years, defined by persistent Pacific fog and marine layer influence, kept temperatures moderate and ripening gradual. Natural acidity was preserved rather than baked away, and winemakers described 2025 as a return to classic-style Napa—elegant, balanced, expressive of terroir.
In the cellar, the majority of the wine fermented cold in stainless steel to preserve freshness. A small portion went to neutral oak for subtle texture, and a touch of Semillon—a nod to the Bordeaux Blanc tradition—adds depth to the blend. Time on lees with regular batonnage fills out the midpalate with a faint creaminess that stainless alone doesn’t achieve.
Every bottle of Reputation carries a line from Aesop on its label: reputation, once lost, cannot be recovered. It’s a reminder that the name on the bottle means something, and that what’s inside has to be worth it.
