Bubbles Built for a Crowd
Pop the cork on a bottle this size and the celebration starts itself. There’s something about a magnum—twice the usual bottle, twice the bubbles—that turns an ordinary gathering into an occasion. Fill one with cold, crisp Prosecco and you have one of the easiest crowd-pleasers there is.
Because Prosecco is fun, magnums are fun, and Prosecco in a magnum is about as much fun as you can pour from a single bottle. This one stays bright and refreshing from the first glass to the last, and it’s endlessly easy to like.
Behind the good time, though, is real pedigree. Abbazia di San Gaudenzio is the work of the Santero family, who have been making wine in the Piedmontese village of Santo Stefano Belbo since 1848.
The house takes its name from a 12th-century Benedictine abbey—raised on the foundations of a 9th-century Roman temple—that’s been folded right into the working cellar and can still be visited. It’s a rare bit of living history for a wine this easygoing.
Nearly two centuries of practice have made this a family that lives and breathes bubbles. Alongside their aromatic Moscato and Asti, they’ve long specialized in the kind of bright, clean sparkling wine northern Italy does so well.
This is a DOC Prosecco built from Glera, the grape that gives the style its signature freshness and floral lift—proof that everyday celebration and genuine know-how don’t have to be at odds.
In the glass, expect a pale straw pour flecked with green and a fine, persistent thread of bubbles. Crisp green apple, ripe pear, and white peach lead the way, while acacia blossom and a squeeze of citrus keep everything lifted and lively.
Light, refreshing, and thoroughly easygoing, it’s exactly the sort of bottle you want in hand when there’s something—anything—worth toasting.
