My wife while making a cake for her son's b-day was looking in our bar for a sweet-flavored alcoholic drink to use in the cake. She found a cointreau type bottle, a bottle of Kahlua and then this unopened hidden gem, literally hidden all the way in a corner behind our tequilas, gin, jack daniels, kahlua, etc. This bottle is at least 25 years old, but I think is older. Her son, who turned 37, told me it can be from when he was a newborn or a toddler, way before I knew my wife. All I know is that it's a Sandeman ruby, and the bottle is small (either 375 ml or 500 ml). I think it also had the word "partner" or another word with the letter "p" on the bottle. It has a very light, almost transparent amber color. It has a very nice smell. All I can say is WOW!!! I had it with a nice Macanudo Portofino cigar and with the cake, both superb pairings. I also tried it by itself earlier, and it was to die for. Both me and my stepson loved it. It is very smooth like silk but has a lot of body at the same time. I can atest that the saying that something or someone is like wine that gets better with age is true. I know I'll be going to my bar more often now to see if I find more "hidden" gems. If anybody can shed more light on this fine "diamond", I'll be very grateful. Is it a non-vintage ruby from that time? or what is it? I didn't see any vintage number, but the bottle is very old so some of the stuff in the label is very hard to read and some of the stuff is in very fine print.
