Medium Ruby that fades to a pale garnet rim. Pronounced aromas of smoke and meat (the smoke did blow off after one hour in the glass) toast, blackcurrant buds, mineral. Balance acidity, vibrant fresh fruit(every sip a different combo) Black cherry, black berry, Black currant. Delicious finish that really does last. This wine seems young, may even be too early. Will last for twenty years or more.
At the price (or any price) this is one of my favorite St-Estephes out there. Classic smokiness that you're looking for in a St-Estephe.
This wine tasted watered down, acidic, and almost sour. Maybe I have had bad luck?. I also purchased 2000 and 2001 vintages which have been equally disappointing. I've ordered through reputable wine sources, the wine just seems marginal at best. Perhaps it's just me, though my company has expressed similar opinions.
