This is a monster red which shouts Napa. There is nothing subtle about this wine in color, on the nose or palate. Frog lovers beware. But for those with California palates you will be rewarded with luscious black fruit, a long luxurious finish dancing with toasty notes, a hint of green and a bit of black pepper, contributed, no doubt, by the PV. A joy if you can get it.

Napa Valley 2002

2002 began with a very dry winter followed by a moderate spring with some rains in May. Conditions were even and mild throughout the summer with the exception of a few heat spikes in September that gave the grapes an extra push as harvest approached. The resulting wines have juicy, fresh acidities and brightness to match their deep dark-fruit cores. Overall an excellent vintage of supple, balanced, concentrated, high-quality wines that have the polish and ripeness to age well.
