beautiful wine great attack of black & red fruit on the front of the palate. full & soft mouth feel, with a wonderful finish of dark chocolate & crisp freshness. great now & probably even better in a couple of years...excellent QPR
This wine has all the right components in balance, but now it is relatively "hot". This wine will reward the patient collector after 3 to 10 years of cellar age. Highly recommended.
Nice youthful black fruit, little black peeper spice. Soft mouthfeel, good concentration. Will be interesting to watch as it ages.
Under the impression that should drink now.Big opening ,fruit forward.tannins were still a bit harsh ,but opened up ,Big wine and the best is yet to come.I won't drink more until 2017
I am beginning to think that Xavier Vignon creates wines that is simply not to my preference profile. This wine is clean in nearly all aspects. The nose is pleasant with faint black fruit, solid savory herbs, and showing some appeal of subtle tobacco and leather. The problem to me is that the fruit takes second or third seat to the big structural fruits seen in many other makers of Gigondas. Here it is all about minerality , some herbs and a big afterthought to the fruit as though any fruit forwardness in his wines has little or no relevance. The wine is smooth, firm, and well balanced but simply not to my liking at this point in time. I feel the same about his CDP's and his Rasteau.
I opened a bottle of the 2010 last week and found it harsh, with a strong nose of residual pasty yeast. To see if it was one bottle, or perhaps me, I opened another one side by side with the 2009. The 2009 was smooth, perfect but the 2010, while not as bad as the last bottle, was again a bit nasty. I remember tasting this when I got it and thought it was not so different from the Bosquet 2010. No longer. I know Gigondas well, have been to the town, and even ate at L'Ostalet. My cellar is a real cellar, and my other wines are doing great. This one is not. Unfortunately, I have 8 bottles left.
