The jacques selosse is a complete oddity in the realm of sparklers. it is a rich and complex blanc to blanc that is currently a bit overwhelmed by its rather vinous and sinewy acidity and the boatload of oak. A note about the oaking here. This is not like bollinger "we are the only winery that uses 100% barrique ageing," rather, this is the equivelant of dominique laurent style double oaking on champagne. As one who usually detests the overoaking of wines, and finds dominique laurent wines to be a bit clunky at times, I am still compelled and fascinated by the effort here by jacques selosse. i have a feeling that the oak shall tame atleast slighty and the wonderfully pure and intriguing blanc de blanc characteristics shall manifest themselves in an atypical and interesting form. this is non sequiter champagne but lovely nonetheless.
